What is a Luton Motorhome?
A luton motorhome (or cabover) refers to motorhomes with a bed located in a compartment above the driver’s cab, and will often be referred to as C-class or cabover motorhomes. While the term ‘cabover motorhome’ is fairly self-explanatory, many prospective motorhome buyers are confused when they hear the words ‘luton motorhome’ or ‘luton peak’. Originally, the term was used to refer to commercial vehicles that were built in the London township of Luton, and has since stuck in the motorhome industry, where ‘luton bodied’ designs are common.
Nearly all luton motorhomes will feature a bed in an east-west orientation, though there are some vehicle manufacturers who use a north-south arrangement. This bed is almost always accessed with a ladder, although in some motorhomes you can climb straight up and in.
What is the Advantage of a Cabover?
The greatest advantage of a cabover motorhome is that it gives you an extra bed without taking up any floor space – the most precious commodity in any motorhome. In standard motorhome designs, the area above the cab is effectively dead space that often becomes a spot to throw any loose items when you’re on the road.
What makes a cabover design so brilliant is that it transforms this dead space and allows you to double your occupancy, without needing a bigger motorhome.

One of the more unique floor plans we offer, the Conquest FA-4 features a front luton bed over the driver’s cab and a rear drop-down electric bed above the four-seat dinette.

Jayco Conquest MS-4
Built on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis, the Conquest MS-4 is a 24ft motorhome that can sleep four adults. Like the Conquest FA-4, the MS-4 features a front luton bed above the cab, and a drop-down electric bed at the rear above the four-seat dinette.

Jayco Optimum FA-1
A 25ft motorhome with a slide-out, the Jayco Optimum FA-1 is built on the Fiat Ducato chassis designed to sleep four adults and a child. In addition to the slide-out double bed, the Optimum FA-1 features a luton bed over the driver’s cab, and a two-seat dinette that converts to an extra bed for the young ones.

The standard configuration has a double-wide slide-out compartment with a double bed and four-seat, cafe-style dinette, as well as a luton bed over the cab.
The alternate configuration features a generous L-shaped dinette, offering an intimate dining area or space to stretch out with a book. As well as the double bed and your choice of a cafe-style or L-shaped dinette, the IV-5B has a luton bed over the cab and comes equipped with a full-width rear ensuite bathroom and a full-size kitchen with a sink, oven, fridge and four-burner stove.

Jayco Optimum MS-4
A 24ft motorhome built on the Mercedes Benz Sprinter chassis, the Optimum MS-4 is a fantastic option for young families that want extra space to unwind. Up front is a luton bed above the driver’s cab, while the rear of the motorhome is occupied by a generous U-shaped lounge, with an electric roll-down bed above that takes only moments to set up when it’s time to turn in.
In addition, the Optimum MS-4 features an ensuite bathroom with a separate shower and toilet, and a full-size kitchen complete with a fridge, oven, sink and four-burner gas stove.
